What classes are available?

Open Hatha classes

Open classes are all drop-in's and open to everybody. They have students of varied experience. Beginners can join in with these classes, but it is recommended that they first join either Nadia's or Mariette's beginners class to learn the basics.

Drop-in Hatha class cost £12 per individual class or £100 for a ticket of 10 classes that can be used over the year.

Tickets are interchangeable between Angus and Nadia's open classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at Chatham Hall.

Beginners Courses
The classes cover the 12 main postures of Sivananda yoga (asanas), Pranayama (breathing techniques), an introduction to Surya Namaska (the sun salutation), and meditation. It is suitable for complete beginners and provides an excellent start to the practice.

Intermediate Hatha Courses
These courses provide much more intimate and detailed instruction and are a natural evolution for keen students. They will allow you to go much deeper into all aspects of your yoga; pranayama, meditation, and ethical considerations. These need to be booked and paid for in advance. They typically run for up to a 12 week period. Missed classes can be redeemed at Angus' Open classes at Chatham Hall.

Meditation (Raja) Group classes

There comes a time for many Hatha Yoga students when they wish to go deeper into their Yoga practice. Raja yoga is that natural progression. Lead by Angus, the group explores practical skills in how to apply the wisdom of yoga in daily life; bringing more harmony to relationships, work and the home. Email Angus for further details.

Pregnancy Courses

A comprehensive course designed to support mothers through every stage of pregnancy; mentally, emotionally and physically.

Birth Rehearsal Classes

Workshop style classes preparing mothers for labour and birth.

Mother and Baby Course

Classes aimed at promoting the total well-being of mother and baby together.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that all courses must be paid for in full before a place is registered on any course. Note also that we cannot offer refunds for booked courses after the first week of any course, as the place is most unlikely to be filled by another student. Courses that are cancelled before one week into the course will be refunded in full, less a 10% admininstration fee.

Type of Yoga taught

Battersea Yoga teaches Classical Hatha Yoga. Naturally this includes the physical asanas or postures, pranayama (breath control) and meditation (stilling the mind). Our aim is to teach Yoga as an inclusive mental, physical and spiritual practice with Patanjali's eight limbs at its core.

What to wear

Wear loose comfortable clothing in which you can breathe, stretch and relax - an extra layer of warm clothing is a good idea for relaxation at the end of the class.

What the nation does is done also by each individual, and so long as the individual continues to do it, the nation will do likewise. Only a change in the attitude of the individual can initiate a change in the psychology of the nation. The great problems of humanity were never yet solved by general laws but only through the regeneration of the attitudes of individuals.
